Until recently, the cluster has been in the enviable position of having very low running costs with most sites either directly under our control or provided at zero rent by friendly landlords.
Wind and solar power is used at very remote locations, however we have installed mains electricity at key sites and invested in the network infrastructure that links them together. Last year we incurred electricity charges of just £150 HOWEVER this year we have been hit, at very short notice, with site rent and electricity charges at another site. We now have running costs of £450 per year which are not being met by the amateur community. Donations are currently running at £100 per year which does not cover the current running costs; therefore we urge you to make a donation to the Salop Cluster or face repeaters being closed down. This is not an idle threat, the first closure could be as soon as the end of April 2018 unless we raise more funds. If every amateur using the Salop Cluster donated just £10 per year we could keep the network running and invest in new facilities. It's in your hands.
